Ida Casaburi

Der Lockruf

Axel Gennaro Menzel's marriage was a failure. He drank, he did not want children and he could only love a woman who was a definitive beauty. His wife, Billa, was not such a beauty, she was practically invisible.

While on a business trip to Naples, Italy, Axel, a shy book restorer, is lured into an obscure and fantastical adventure by a self-portrait of a beautiful woman and a note that is hidden in the upholstery of his headboard.

His odyssey comes to an end in a fishermen's village on the Atlantic shore of France. There, Axel tries to untangle the circumstances that have led him to this situation by writing down his experiences into the logbook of the late Captain Monnier whose strange and dark words seem to have a connection with Axel.

Uneasiness and irritation grow due to the derangement of the narrator. Reality and fiction meld into a poignant internal drama.
